Last week, I attended a freelancers meetup looking for some potential collaborators. Tired of working from home and the non-stop video calls, meeting people in person always feels great.
The agenda for the meeting was,
The attendees shared a lot of ideas on the said topics. Here are a few that I still remember.
Present your portfolio while pitching for projects. Start with a Facebook page, an Instagram account, or a blogger site. Describe the services you offer, highlight some of your previous works and how people can contact you.
Have a box of business cards handy. Attend as much as networking meetups and conferences as you can. Set a target to hand out at least 50 cards every month to prospective clients or collaborators.
Make one quality connection on LinkedIn every month. Extend from your current LinkedIn network or through offline meetups.
People see businesses with GSTN as legit. Find an accountant and register for GSTN.
Once you have your gig up and running, start owning your platform. Buy a domain and set up your website – a simple static site or WordPress. Use all other social media to drive traffic to your site.
Do not rely on third-party services like blogger, Wix, Tumblr or Medium. If someone can kick you out of their platform, you risk losing the compounding effect.
Your website is your brand. Own it.
